What a fun week. It was so nice to have Lily home for Spring Break. We just played, played, and played. Fortunately, St Louis is full of free family stuff to do. And when we weren't playing outside we were playing inside. Lily is a girl after my own heart, and she LOVES to make stuff.
She found this owl project in the 2010 Sewing Calendar by Accord Publishing. They kindly sent me a copy. (My crate tutorial is on the Oct 7-10 page.) It's full of beginning sewing projects--free tutorials you can also find on the Internet. But it's really nice to have them all printed and sorted. Lily has enjoyed digging through it.
Back to the owl. Here is a link to the Owl Egg Cozy by Amy Adams. It was designed as an egg cozy, but Lily stitched completely around it and stuffed it. The best part was, she did the entire project without mom's help. She was so proud of herself. So proud, she had to teach her new found skills to her buddy Lindsey. They made a whole family of owls. Luckily, Lily happened to have a nest she had made from a brown paper bag. (That cracks me up.)
The only problem with that crazy creative brain of hers is that it's hard to throw anything away around here. Diaper boxes make great Littlest Pet Shop houses. Plastic bottles can be noise makers. And oh the things she can make with paper bags. I can't tell you how often she says "can I keep that" as I'm making my way to the recycling bin.
