Life is Peachy
What a perfect send off for summer...... Juicy peaches from Eckert's Orchard. They let you sample them as you pick. My good friend Rachel ( seen below with one of her adorable boys) came up for a visit and it was all kid entertainment all the time. (Except when rache and I were making peach freezer jam or loading her up at Trader Joe's.)
After all the kid fun (the zoo, the magic house, peach picking, the botanical gardens, the pool) I felt a little better about sending Lily back to school (only a little better).
Yummy! All the things to do with peaches. My favorite is this peach crisp with a little vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. In fact I fixed up a batch yesterday for the Patty Young family, who happened to be visiting Saint Louis. It was so fun to get acquainted. Patty's youngest was wearing one of her charming little Modkid outfits. (Yummier than the peach crisp!) Best of all, Patty has promised to have us over for her homemade Tres Leches Cake, which I have only had one time before and am dying to have again. I Guess the Gunns need a road trip:)
(Confession: I dished up these 2 servings of Peach Crisp for this photograph. As there was no one around to share with, I ate them both)
In order to ease my conscience about finishing of the rest off the peach crisp. I'm sharing the recipe. This is my favorite desert to make because it is unbelievably easy and sooooo tasty.
(confession: I stole this recipe from my sister)
Any Fruit Crisp
3-4 cups frozen or fresh fruit,
sliced (it's really yummy with a bag of frozen mixed berries)
1 c flour
1 c sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1 egg, beaten
1/2 c butter, melted
butter a small baking dish.
Put fruit on bottom of dish. In a bowl combine flour, sugar, and baking
powder. Add egg and mix well. Scatter mixture over fruit. Drizzle melted
butter over all. Bake @ 375 for 25 min.
PS...When I see something this great I just gotta share. Check out these cutie pj's from Beth at Acorn Collective. Can you believe she's giving them away?!?!?!? Looks like you share a funny baby story. Lucky for me, Lily supplied me with all sorts of stories. Now, I just need to pick one.

Oohhhh. That looks like fun and like NUM!!! I don't blame you for eating two. You ate one for me, didn't you? Nummmmmmm.

Yummy, I would have eaten them both too! Those look delicious, thank you for the recipe, I will definately try that!

Oh, Kelly, it doesn't just have fruit in it. It also has protein packed eggs. And the ice cream adds wholesome dairy. It's pretty much a health food.

You guys are brave giving the baby a peach in the stroller! I, too, polished off more than my fair share of peach crisp last week. I guess that's what happens when you leave it out on the counter all day with a handy spoon sitting in the dish...YUM!

HA! You are putting me to shame by sharing your yummy peach crisp recipe here! I won't be sharing my Tres Leches recipe on my blog as it is a secret family recipe that has been passed down generation after generation... right now only 2 of us have copies of it and I am the proud owner of one of them. ;)
We had a great time at your house yesterday, Laura. Your family is just lovely and we can't wait for you guys to come up and visit. Thanks again!!!
I've been editing my bazillion pictures from our trip today and once I get to the ones of the 2 of us, I promise to share.
Take care!

what a dream come true this all is. Yeah I would have eaten both servings for sure... anyone who might have even considered judging probably hasn't spent much time with a fruit crisp. Let's not joke around here.

My gran used to make something very similar with apples at the bottom, here in the UK we call it Eve's pudding. I am 36, and it has only just occured to me this very moment that it is infact called Eve's pudding because of the apples, talk about a lightbulb moment.

I love that name, Eve's pudding. It makes me want to change the name of all apple treats to include Eve. Ahhh, British English, so much more fun.

Hi there from a fellow St Louisian! Have you been to Eckerts to do apples yet? We went to a different farm for peaches, but I am considering going out there for the apple carnival/festival.
What a lovely blog you have here btw!
