A Little Fall Decor
Hmmmmmm.... orange, turquoise, and gold--my favorite fall colors. And nothing says Autumn like old rusting door fixtures. (Hee Hee.) I'm doing a big Thanksgiving dinner at my house this year. I want to be in theme, but not too in theme, if you know what I mean. A few years ago I did a lot of searching for Thanksgiving centerpiece ideas. Wow, that was an ugly Google search. What's up with that???
When I was little, my mom would put together an elaborate center piece out of exotic fresh fruits. It was so beautiful, but pricey. Dave thinks that we probably won't have much room for a center piece with all the food (yummy). But I want it all. If you have any great ideas, please help!!!
Lily is off school today and slaving away raking leaves. This would be helpful, but she is only doing it so that she can pounce on them with a friend. When we moved to St Louis from Arizona, then 4 yr old Lily was ecstatic about the seasons. When the leaves had just started to fall she worked for minutes (a long time for a 4 yr old) to gather the leaves in the front yard into a pile. As there were approximately 15 fallen leaves at this point it made a very tiny pile. But still, it topped anything she could do with lantana leaves in Phoenix. She was thrilled with her handy-work. She backed away from the pile and ran with all her little might, obliterating the 6 inch by 6 inch pile of leaves. Imagine her enthusiasm when the leaves really did begin to fall and the piles were 6 feet by 6 feet. Definitely one of the things I love about the Midwest.

Could you do a centerpiece that hangs from the chandelier?? Or decorate the chandelier - fire-safely, of course.

What a pretty mantel display. ...When we first moved from FL to NC my son was ecstatic about the leaves too...raking,piling,jumping & then....we discovered ticks !Ahhhhh...he won't go near leaves now, couldn't even pay him to rake ;)

How fun! Wish we had more than a baby tree or two. Guess we'll have to wait a few years IF we wait around long enough to see the tree mature. Leaves ARE fun and pretty! Love the mantel. Yes, I like Heather's idea of hanging something from the chandy. I found some pretty leaf garlands at Target that are gildy/glittery but still pretty and then I wove a long bead garland around that as well. It's festive enough to leave up for Christmas as well.

I have never been so impressed with fall as I was last week in Belgium. Holy Cow!!! It was incredible. I will post a picture of one of the leaves...I was glad to see it too as fall is all gone from Idaho. Thanks for adding me to your blog roll!

OK, I am definitely going to do some shopping around for chandelier hoo-ha. I'll start with Target. And in a few weeks I'll wish I only had a few baby trees. Can't wait to see the pics of fall in Belgium!

I like the door fixtures too and the wreath.
I have a ceiling fan in my dining room and I just had the funniest thought about decorating it and then some helpful person turning it on. Yikes!

Hey Laura! It was crazy to see you on my blog, so I thought I'd leave a comment on yours (even though yours is one I frequently visit to see all your fun ideas!). I love the door fixtures. There's something forgotten, and autumn like in their qualities. As for a centerpiece, I don't have any great ideas, but I could see you doing something with the old keys that go to door fixtures like the ones you have. Very creative and festive!
