Two birds with One Mom
What fun, what fun. I had the loveliest visit with my mom last week. It'll take me a few entries to get caught up on all the cool stuff we did (a nursery makeover, a creative show and tell with some friends, a hunt for a quilt shop, and 2 skirts). I thought I'd start with this sweet little skirt my mom made for Lily. Oh boy, was it fun to watch unfold. The rick rack, the applique, the ruffles. Lily was literally jumping up and down when the finished skirts emerged. As if that weren't enough, she made a matching belt and purse. Thanks mom!
The little bird applique was my favorite part. So here's a little tutorial so you can share in the fun!

ohh how adorable! My girl(s) will be drooling and dripping with envy over this cute skirt/bag/belt! I just love your new blog, Laura!

Yay! Lucky girl. I think you & your mum are brilliant. Great sewing ideas!

What fun! I'd love to see a close-up of those birdies. I think I'll be making a braided belt soon, for sure.

I love that skirt - so cute! I clicked on your tutorial link - thanks so much for that - I am sure that technique will come in handy. I used that same Anthropologie dish towel to make a skirt for my daughter last summer...I just cut it in half , stitched up the sides and then added a waistband and some elastic.
